Current time difference
As of October 6, 2026, CET is at UTC+2 and EST at UTC−4. EST is 6 hours behind CET. For example, 09:00 → 03:00, 13:00 → 07:00, 18:00 → 12:00 (CET → EST).
Daylight saving time in 2026: CET and EST
CET uses daylight saving time: in 2026 clocks go forward on March 29 (UTC+1 → UTC+2) and back on October 25. EST uses daylight saving time: in 2026 clocks go forward on March 8 (UTC−5 → UTC−4) and back on November 1. The difference changes during the year: January 1 – March 7: -6 hr; March 8 – March 28: -5 hr; March 29 – October 24: -6 hr; October 25 – October 31: -5 hr; November 1 – December 31: -6 hr.
Time Zone Converter
How to use
- 1Pick the “from” time zone — your own zone is preselected.
- 2Set a date and time, or press Now.
- 3Add more cities or time zones from the list; every IANA time zone is available.
- 4Use the 24-hour meeting planner: click a row to choose that hour for all zones.
Daylight saving time for the date you pick
Offsets come from the IANA time zone database built into your browser, so conversions are correct for the specific date you enter, not just for today. That matters: the US changes its clocks on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November, while the UK and the EU change on the last Sundays of March and October. For a few weeks each spring and autumn, New York is therefore 4 hours behind London instead of the usual 5. Each row shows the UTC offset and whether the zone is on daylight saving time, standard time or doesn’t use DST at all.
EST, PST, GMT — abbreviations vs. real time zones
Abbreviations are ambiguous and change with the season: New York is on EST (UTC−5) in winter and EDT (UTC−4) in summer, Los Angeles on PST (UTC−8) or PDT (UTC−7), London on GMT (UTC+0) or BST (UTC+1). IST can mean India (UTC+5:30), Ireland or Israel. That is why the converter uses city-based IANA zones such as America/New_York or Asia/Kolkata — pick the city and the correct offset follows automatically. Most of Arizona (America/Phoenix) stays on MST all year.
Planning meetings across time zones
The meeting planner lists all 24 hours of the chosen day side by side for every selected zone. Green cells are normal working hours (09:00–17:00), yellow cells are early morning or evening (07–09 and 17–21), and grey cells are night. A +1 or −1 marks hours that fall on the next or previous day. A New York–India call, for example, only has a narrow overlap: early morning in New York is evening in Kolkata.
Frequently asked questions
What time is it in EST now?
Add America/New_York (US Eastern) to see the current time with live seconds. In summer the zone is on EDT, UTC−4; in winter on EST, UTC−5.
How many hours ahead is London from New York?
Usually 5 hours. For a few weeks in March and around the end of October, when only one country has changed its clocks, the difference is 4 hours.
Does the converter adjust for daylight saving time?
Yes, automatically, using your browser’s time zone database for the date you enter.
What is the difference between GMT and UTC?
For everyday use they show the same time. UTC is the atomic-clock standard; GMT is the time zone the UK uses in winter. Neither changes for daylight saving — the UK switches to BST (UTC+1) in summer.
