How to use
- 1Drop one or more images.
- 2Enter a width and height (with the aspect-ratio lock) or a percentage, or pick a preset.
- 3Choose “contain” to fit the whole image or “cover” to fill the frame with a center crop.
- 4Pick the output format and download.
Presets for the sizes you need
Instagram square post 1080 × 1080, portrait post 1080 × 1350 (4:5), Stories and Reels 1080 × 1920 (9:16); Facebook cover 820 × 312; YouTube thumbnail 1280 × 720 (16:9); Open Graph share image 1200 × 630; and a 512 × 512 app icon/favicon source. Platforms change their recommendations from time to time, but these are the current standards.
Contain vs cover
When the target ratio differs from your photo, “contain” scales the whole image to fit inside the frame, leaving empty bands at the sides or top and bottom. “Cover” fills the frame completely and crops the overflow from the center — what you want for thumbnails and social posts. Keep the main subject near the center when using cover.
Resize before you upload
Phone cameras produce 12–48 megapixel images (4000+ pixels wide), while most websites display images 800–1600 pixels wide. Uploading full-size photos makes pages slow. For retina screens, export at about twice the displayed width — e.g. 1600 pixels for an image shown at 800 — and then run it through the image compressor. Enlarging a small image beyond its original size will not add detail and will look soft.
Frequently asked questions
How do I resize without distorting the image?
Keep the aspect-ratio lock on, or use “cover” to crop to the new ratio instead of stretching.
Does resizing reduce quality?
Downscaling keeps images sharp; upscaling can’t add detail and will look blurry. Lossy output formats add slight compression depending on the quality setting.
Are my photos uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing happens in your browser and files never leave your device.
What size should a website image be?
Match the largest size it is displayed at, doubled for retina screens: typically 1600–2000 px wide for full-width heroes and 800–1200 px for content images.
