Aspect ratios for social media
1:1 is the classic square for Instagram feed posts and profile images. 4:5 is the tallest portrait Instagram shows in the feed. 16:9 fits YouTube thumbnails, presentations and widescreen video; 9:16 fits Instagram Stories, Reels, TikTok and YouTube Shorts. 3:2 and 2:3 match most camera photos and standard 4×6 prints, 4:3 suits many phone photos and tablets, and 1.91:1 is the Open Graph size used for link previews on Facebook, LinkedIn and others.
Precise cropping, rotation and flip
The crop box keeps the chosen ratio while you resize it and shows the crop area in pixels. For fine adjustments, use the arrow keys to move the box by 1 pixel, or 10 pixels with Shift. Rotate left or right in 90° steps and flip horizontally or vertically — handy for sideways phone photos or mirrored selfies.
Output format and quality
JPEG gives small files for photos; quality 80–90 is usually indistinguishable from the original. PNG is lossless and keeps transparency, ideal for screenshots and graphics. WebP produces smaller files than JPEG at similar quality and is supported by all modern browsers. Cropping happens in your browser and the image is never uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How do I crop an image to a square?
Choose the 1:1 ratio, drag the box over the part you want to keep and click Crop.
What size is 9:16?
A vertical ratio used for Stories, Reels, TikTok and Shorts; 1080×1920 pixels is the common size.
Does cropping reduce quality?
Cropping only removes pixels at the edges. With PNG or high-quality JPEG/WebP the remaining area keeps its quality.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The image is cropped in your browser and never leaves your device.
