How to use
- 1Enter a start date and an end date; add times if you need hours and minutes.
- 2Tick “Include end date” if both the first and the last day should count.
- 3Read the total days, the exact years-months-days difference, weeks, hours and business days.
- 4Use the second section to add or subtract days, weeks, months or years from a date.
How the difference is counted
By default the calculator counts from the start date up to, but not including, the end date — the same way a spreadsheet subtracts two dates. January 1 to January 31 is therefore 30 days; tick “Include end date” to get 31, which is what you want when counting the days of an event, a vacation or a contract period. The exact difference is given in calendar years, months and days (plus hours and minutes when you enter times), and the total is also converted into weeks, hours, minutes and seconds. If the end date is earlier than the start date, the difference is shown as a positive value with a note.
Business days vs. calendar days
The business-day figure counts Monday to Friday only, and the weekend figure counts Saturdays and Sundays. Public holidays are not removed here. For deadlines that must also skip US federal holidays or UK bank holidays, use the Business Days Calculator, which subtracts them for the country you choose and lists each one.
Adding months: the end-of-month rule
Adding days or weeks is simple arithmetic, but months differ in length. Adding one month to January 31 gives February 28 (or 29 in a leap year), because February has no 31st — the result is moved to the last day of the month, and the tool tells you when that happens. This matches how most contracts and spreadsheet functions such as EDATE handle month arithmetic. Every result is shown with its weekday, so you can see at once whether a deadline falls on a weekend.
Frequently asked questions
How many days are between two dates?
Enter both dates: the large number is the count of days between them, not counting the end date. Tick “Include end date” to add the final day.
How many weeks until a date?
Set the start date to today with the Today button and the end date to your target; the Weeks box shows full weeks plus the remaining days.
Does it account for leap years?
Yes. All calculations use the real calendar, so February 29 and different month lengths are handled automatically.
Is daylight saving time considered when I enter times?
No. Times are treated as wall-clock times and every day counts as 24 hours, so a clock change in between does not add or remove an hour.
