Favicon Generator

Create a complete favicon set — favicon.ico, PNG icons, Apple touch icon and site.webmanifest — from an image, a letter or an emoji.

Files

    Code for your <head>

    site.webmanifest

Upload all files to the root folder of your site.

This tool runs entirely in your browser; your data is never sent to a server.

    How to use

    1. 1Upload a square image, or type a letter or emoji and choose colors and rounding.
    2. 2Review the generated icons in every size.
    3. 3Download favicon.ico, the PNG sizes and site.webmanifest.
    4. 4Upload the files to your site root and paste the HTML snippet into <head>.

    Which favicon files you need

favicon.ico (this tool builds a real multi-size ICO containing 16, 32 and 48 px images) for browsers, bookmarks and tools that request /favicon.ico directly; 32 × 32 and 16 × 16 PNGs for browser tabs; a 180 × 180 apple-touch-icon.png for iPhone and iPad home screens; and 192 × 192 and 512 × 512 PNGs referenced in site.webmanifest for Android and installable web apps. The snippet links them all correctly.

    Favicons in Google search results

Google shows your favicon next to your result on mobile and desktop. Its guidelines require a square icon at least 8 × 8 px (48 × 48 or larger recommended), a stable URL, and that the homepage and favicon are crawlable. A clear favicon makes your result stand out and raises click-through. New favicons can take days to weeks to appear in Google.

    Design tips for tiny sizes

At 16 pixels, detail disappears: use a bold single letter, a simple symbol or the most recognizable part of your logo instead of the full logo with text. Use strong contrast and test it on both light and dark browser themes. Emoji favicons are a fast option for side projects, but they render differently on each OS, so this tool draws them into a fixed image.

    Frequently asked questions

Where do I put favicon files?

In your site’s root folder (so /favicon.ico works), then add the generated <link> tags to the <head> of every page. In WordPress, use Appearance → Customize → Site Identity → Site Icon instead.

Why doesn’t my new favicon show up?

Browsers cache favicons aggressively. Hard-refresh, open the favicon URL directly, or test in a private window. Google search results update on their own schedule.

    Is a favicon.ico still needed in 2026?

Yes, as a fallback. Many browsers, crawlers and apps still request /favicon.ico automatically.

What size should my source image be?

Square and at least 512 × 512 px, so every generated size stays sharp.
