What Is My IP Address?

Your public IP address, approximate location, ISP and connection details — shown instantly, no input needed.

Your public IP address…

Detecting your IP address…

Location is estimated from the IP address; it usually shows your provider’s city, not your home address.

The address you enter is only used for the check and is not stored.

How to use

  1. 1Open the page; your public IP appears at the top automatically.
  2. 2Copy it with one click.
  3. 3Check location, ISP, ASN, time zone and connection details in the table below.

Public vs private IP address

The address shown here is your public IP — the one websites see, assigned to your router or mobile connection by your ISP. Devices inside your home or office have private addresses (like 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x or 172.16–31.x.x) that never leave the local network. To find your local IP: ipconfig on Windows, ipconfig getifaddr en0 on macOS, or ip addr on Linux.

IPv4 or IPv6?

IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.42; there are only about 4.3 billion of them, so ISPs share them using NAT. IPv6 addresses look like 2001:db8::1 and are effectively unlimited. If your network supports IPv6, you will most likely see an IPv6 address here, since browsers prefer it. Seeing IPv4 only is normal on many networks and doesn’t indicate a problem.

How accurate is IP location?

IP geolocation is reliable at country level and often at region level, but the city can be off by tens of miles — it typically shows where your ISP routes traffic, not your home. Your IP reveals your ISP and approximate area, not your street address. If you use a VPN, proxy or iCloud Private Relay, you will see the VPN server’s IP and location instead of your own — a quick way to verify your VPN is working.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my IP address change?

Most home and mobile connections use dynamic IPs that the ISP reassigns periodically or when the router restarts. Static IPs are usually a paid business option.

Can someone find my home address from my IP?

No. An IP shows your ISP and approximate area. Only your ISP can link it to a subscriber, typically only under a legal order.

How do I hide or change my IP?

Use a VPN or Tor, switch networks (e.g. Wi-Fi to mobile data), or restart your router if your ISP assigns dynamic IPs.

Why does the location show a different city?

Geolocation databases map IP ranges to where the ISP registers or routes them, which may be a nearby hub city rather than your actual location.
