How to use
- 1Choose paragraphs, sentences or words and set the amount.
- 2Pick classic Latin or readable filler text in your language.
- 3Optionally start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…” and wrap paragraphs in <p> tags.
- 4Copy the text into your design or layout.
What is Lorem Ipsum?
Lorem Ipsum is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero’s “De finibus bonorum et malorum” (45 BC), used as dummy text by typesetters since the 1500s and later popularized by desktop publishing software. Because it is meaningless, viewers focus on layout, typography and spacing instead of reading the words.
Latin or readable filler?
Latin is ideal for pure layout work. Readable filler in the target language is better when testing real-world typography: word lengths, accents, line breaks and hyphenation differ a lot between languages — German words are long, Arabic is right-to-left. Testing with realistic text catches overflowing buttons and broken lines before the real copy arrives.
Don’t ship placeholder text
Forgotten Lorem Ipsum on live pages looks unprofessional and creates thin, duplicate content in Google’s eyes. Before launch, search your site and templates for “lorem” and “ipsum”, and keep staging sites out of the index with noindex or password protection. Where possible, design with real draft copy — it shows whether headings and CTAs actually fit.
Frequently asked questions
Is Lorem Ipsum free to use?
Yes. The text is centuries old and in the public domain, and the readable filler on this page is original text you can use freely.
What does “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet” mean?
It is a fragment of Cicero’s “neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum…”, roughly “nor is there anyone who loves pain itself”. The standard passage is altered and doesn’t translate cleanly.
Can I get the text with HTML tags?
Yes. Turn on the HTML option and each paragraph is wrapped in <p> tags, ready to paste into code.
