MP4 to MP3 Converter

Extract the soundtrack from a video file and save it as MP3, M4A or WAV — converted on your device, never uploaded.

🔒 Your file is never uploaded: conversion runs entirely in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm. Recommended maximum size: 500 MB.

This tool runs entirely in your browser; your data is never sent to a server.

How to use

  1. 1Drag a video file onto the page or click to choose one (MP4, MOV, WEBM, MKV, AVI…).
  2. 2Choose the output format: MP3, M4A (AAC) or WAV.
  3. 3For MP3 or M4A, pick a bitrate from 96 to 320 kbps.
  4. 4Click “Extract audio”, wait for the progress bar, then play or download the result.

Converted in your browser with ffmpeg.wasm

Most online converters upload your video to a server. This one runs ffmpeg — the open-source engine behind many video tools — compiled to WebAssembly, directly in your browser, so the file never leaves your device. The engine is downloaded the first time you convert (about 10 MB, around 32 MB unpacked) and cached afterwards. A progress bar shows the conversion, and you can cancel at any time.

MP3, M4A or WAV — which to choose

MP3 plays everywhere; 192 kbps is a good default, 128 kbps is fine for speech and podcasts, and 256–320 kbps keeps more detail in music. M4A (AAC) gives similar quality at a slightly lower bitrate and is native on Apple devices. WAV is uncompressed PCM with no further quality loss, but files are large (about 10 MB per minute in stereo). Note that converting can’t improve on the audio quality already in the video.

File size and limits

Conversion uses your device’s memory, so very large videos can be slow or fail. Up to 500 MB is recommended; the maximum is 2 GB. If a file fails, it may have no audio track, use an unsupported codec or be damaged. Only convert videos you have the right to use.

Frequently asked questions

Is my video uploaded?

No. The audio is extracted by ffmpeg running in your browser; the video file never leaves your device.

What bitrate should I choose for MP3?

192 kbps is a good balance for most audio. Use 128 kbps for speech and 256–320 kbps for music you care about.

Can I convert MOV, MKV or WEBM to MP3?

Yes. Any common video format that ffmpeg can read works, including MOV from iPhones, MKV, WEBM and AVI.

Why is the first conversion slower?

The converter engine is downloaded once (about 10 MB) the first time. After that it is cached by your browser.

Can I convert a YouTube link?

No. The tool only converts video files on your device; it does not download from websites.
