How to use
- 1Enter the URL of the page you want to scan.
- 2We extract every http(s) link on the page and test up to 45 of them.
- 3Broken links (4xx, 5xx, unreachable) are listed first, redirects marked as warnings.
- 4Use the anchor text to find each link in your editor and fix it.
Why broken links matter
Dead links frustrate visitors, waste Googlebot’s crawl on dead ends, and stop link equity from flowing to the pages you care about. On e-commerce sites they often point to discontinued products or removed categories; on blogs, to external sources that disappeared. Pages accumulate broken links over time, so check your most important pages a few times a year.
How the scan works
We fetch the page, collect every <a href> link (absolute and relative), remove duplicates and skip mailto:, tel: and #anchor links. Up to 45 unique links per scan are checked with a live request; results are tagged internal or external and sorted with errors first. For larger pages, scan key templates (home, category, article) one by one.
How to fix each result
404/410: update the link to the correct URL or remove it; for your own moved pages, add a 301 redirect from the old URL (our 301 redirect generator writes the rule). 5xx: the target server is failing — recheck later before removing. 3xx: the link works, but pointing it straight at the final URL saves a hop. 403 or 429 on external sites is often bot protection rather than a dead link; open it in a browser to confirm.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the scan limited to 45 links?
To keep checks fast and avoid hammering other servers. If your page has more links, the first 45 unique ones are checked.
Does it crawl my whole website?
No. It checks the links on the single page you enter. Run it on your key pages one at a time.
A link shows as broken but opens in my browser. Why?
Some sites block automated requests (403/429) or require cookies or login. Those are false positives — verify manually.
Do broken outbound links hurt SEO?
A few won’t sink rankings, but many signal a poorly maintained page and hurt user experience. Fixing them is quick and worthwhile.
